mucho gusto

playa spirit

what an interesting work experience i've had since i moved to CA. i moved from TX to CA after having spent 90% of my life in TX. i've always moved to job i "unlike less". but when i identified some here-to-fore unknown talents in "technology", i decided to parlay that into a move to CA, and hopefully an early retirement.

i'm kidding about that last part :). i only hoped to dig up some roots, save some money, and travel the world for a spot. i'm writing this 5+ years after that move to CA. i had a job that fully engaged me (if it didn't ignite a passion) and was surrounded by people who were at the top of their game: really effective, interesting and smart people. Did i think that only because they were more like me? hehe. quite possibly. our mobile-nation is facilitating self-segregation, and hence polarization. that will come as no surprise to anyone at all familiar with US election dynamics these past few years. disclaimer: TX is home to some of my best friends, and i miss them a lot. TX is not full of people who vote for trent lott. unfortunately, it's full-enough of them.

but i digress. i am now employed by the company that bought that company that engaged me. hey couldn't be more different. and not being able to bear the thought of a move to suburb DC (new corporate hdqtrs), i accepted an offer to "work from home". and i love my home. i've always been a "nester', but frankly my nest became my prison. oh, so i am prone to the dramatic tonight. regardless, i decided i needed to make this job work for me for awhile longer, and go work from someplace more interesting.

that is why i am in playa del carmen, Q Roo, MX, for a month. i got a "cheap" condo with internet access, and i work in the day and explore MX by night and weekend. i am so glad i did this. i won't bore you with the details of how this was accomplished with little cost and a good internet connections. let me just say "times, they are a'changin". no longer must we be slaves to technology, we can use technology to free us. all in good time.

so now onto my MX entries that i will try to keep regular now that i have the groundwork set. mucho gusto!
